While many love him for this chiselled and toned body, Arjun Rampal is back to impress you with his amazing acting skills in Daddy. After donning a role of a cop in Kahaani 2: Durga Rani Singh, Arjun Rampal will be playing the role of gangster turned politician in Daddy! This upcoming Bollywood movie is an Indian political crime drama portraying the well-known gangster-turned-politician Arun Gawli.
The teaser of the movie was released on December 1, 2016, which gave snipped of Arun Gawli’s heinous crimes and exploitation that ranges from loot to murder. The official trailer received a lot of appreciation for Arjun Rampal’s striking resemblance to Arun Gawli. Daddy is based on the life of Arun Gawli. After living a life of a gangster, he created his own political party – Akhil Bharatiya Sena in Maharashtra. The biopic got its name from the fact that the Maharashtrian locals respected and admired him and called him ‘Daddy’. Directed by Ashim Ahluwalia and Produced by Rutvij Patel and Arjun Rampal, this movie will leave you spellbound. Set in the 1970s, Daddy takes on a journey of Arun Gawli’s life from being a gangster to an elected legislator. He held the position from the year 2004-2009. The movie also features Anand Ingale and Nishikant Kamat in the lead roles.
A Little Bit of Arun Gawli
Arun Gawli came from the back alleys and rough streets of Central Mumbai. Scripting his own destiny, Gawli became one of the most feared gangsters. For some, he portrayed a figure of volatile and power-hungry criminal, while for some he was a respected “Daddy” or modern-day ‘Robin Hood’. In the year 2012, Gawli was convicted and jailed for the murder of Kamlakar Jamsandekar – Shiv Sena Municipal Councillor.
To make this movie a success, Arjun Rampal has sunk deep to get into the role. Playing the role of his wife is South Indian Actress – Aishwarya Rajesh as Asha Gawli. The movie also stars singer and actor Farhan Akhtar in a cameo as Dawood Ibrahim. Arjun Rampal says the movie came to him when he was shooting for ‘Roy’. Rampal even met Arun Gawli who he thinks is a smart and simple man.
Earlier, the movie was slated to be released on 21st July 2017. However, on request of Geeta, Arun Gawli’s daughter, the makers have decided to delay the release. After much waiting, the film now releases on 8th September 2017. The reason for the delay is because Geeta hopes Arun Gawli might come out on parole in September and wants her father to see the film as it is an emotional connect with his real-life.
